LOL I can just see you trying to find a Racoon's cha chas while your dog & racoon are rolling around and probably running as well!!

Anything that gets you that close is likely to get you bit by your dog as well.

Water works, but I wouldn't recomment standing close enough to pee on them if no hose was handy.

That just might cause you to have a different title to the next thread - Anyone know where I can get my ________ sown back on?

Or How do I get my half eaten ________ out of a dog/racoon?

It varies by animal, but don't mess with Racoons. Racoons have sharp teeth and claws. You never get close enough to grab its nuggets before it scratched your throat out and if it was female youd be grabbing for nothing.

You would act differently with a bear, a wolf, a raccon, a snake. No one answer. I had a little battle with a rabid muskrat once and the only thing that saved me was that I had a long stick. I had a broom handle and it was just enough to keep the critter from lunging distance.

I used the technique where you might put you palm on a little kids forehead so he can't land a swing. But this was a stick and instead of a kid it was an ornery little thing with claws.

Yeah the vet said to AVOID RACCOONs if you spot them in the day. Apparently Raccoons don't travel in the day but night. If you get bitten by one in the day GO STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL! No joke!
IMHO, that advice applies no matter if it's day or night. No animal likes to be cornered, and just because it's cute doesn't mean it's cuddly. Wild animal mouths aren't sterile environments, so bite wounds can be nasty even from a healthy animal.

haha omg... this reminds me... me and a bunch of my girlfriends had just got done with dinner and we were all piled into her GTI and we're driving downtown and a ****in RACCOON runs out in front of our car in the middle of downtown Eugene. we all start screaming bloody murder and my friend tammy was like "A CAT A CAT A BIG CAT!!!!" hahahaha...

in that same exact car we ran over 2 baby raccoons... but that was on a country road. haha... we heard 'em crunch and then roll around underneath the car. it was SICK! i started crying... and tammy was screaming and then we both look at each other and just start laughing hysterically and hugging. we made her boyfriend wash the car when we got home...

raccoons are DISGUSTING when they're big, cute when they're babies though. but possums are definitely the most despicable rodent and way more vicious too.

Raccoons are tough too. I saw one, probably rabid, bounce off my buddy's ST1300's lower fairing at about 30 MPH in the Malibu hills and keep on moving. The rodent was wobbling onto the road as I passed so I watched my mirrors. Left a nice mark on the bike.
