There's also a $6.95 bottle of wine from NY that's my favorite red.
Tony's Red, by chance? I really like that, but I haven't had it in way too long. As far as most expensive, I've had $20-30 bottles brought over for dinner at my place before. Unfortunately, I can't remember names now.
Over the years I've bought a few California cabs at between $75 and $100 a bottle. I found that there is an exponential scale on price vs. quality once you get past about $25 a bottle.
My latest joy is finding incredible petit syrahs and barberas for under $25/bottle. Living in CA, I try to buy only CA wines. Most bang for the buck IMO, but Australia is bottling some nice (and inexpensive) wines.
When I took out my girlfriend to a dinner for her birthday last year, I saw something you dont see everyday.
I took her out to a restaurant in NYC called VERITAS. The food is flawless, but the place is renowned for their wine selection. Here is a quick pic I snapped with my cellphone (didnt wanna be rude at the restaurant) of the wine menu. You cant see what the wine is, but look at the second price on the right hand side........$35,000!!!
And no, I didnt buy it.....if I were to trade my s2000 in, it still wouldnt be enough

Nope, although I did have a bottle of that recently. My favorite is Pasta Red by Knapp. And they can now ship to Texas! Yay!
I guess you guys aren't differentiating between the cost at retail and the cost with restaurant markups?
The most expensive bottles in my collection (probably $10K-$20K total) are about $65 retail, but I've seen them listed in restaurants for more than $100. Beyond that, the prices become so exponential that you pay two or three or five times as much for just tiny differences in quality and availability.
I buy a lot of Charles Shaw but I don't drink any of it -- it's excellent to cook with though barely drinkable.
Burns steakhouse here in Tampa has the largest privately owned wine collection in the US and they have several bottles of one of a kind vintages that break the 10K range
