Maybe, other than the 30% gain in Mac users over each year for the past few years. They were raised on Windows and switched.
because it took 2 decades for Apple to develop an equally competitive OS

Yeah, that's been disproven already - Apple uses and sells its own POS. It was originally sourced from 360commerce and has since been built in house. My eye doctor just got it too.

If there was a 30% gain over each of the past few years, most of us would have a mac. Going to guess most do not. My brother has one. He may just have a lemon, but a door stop is of more use then his mac.
30% gain in Mac users, not 30% gain of all computer users. They are wildly popular and the data proves that out despite anecdotal evidence.

thanks for pointing that out. Apple and MS aren't really "direct" competitors. Especially now with bootcamp, MS supports Apple, to MS, Macbooks are just another computer that can support Window's. And Apple's OS hasn't been much of a competitor until their most recent platform OSX. With bootcamp, the ability to support Window's has benefited both MS and Apple.

It amazes me how many people support Apple's reliability. As a designer, I was thinking about getting a Macbook to replace my current Dell laptop, but out of the umpteen friends I have with Macs, about 70% of them have had serious issues with their laptops, several of which had their whole laptops replaced withing the first year of owning it. Meanwhile my "crappy" Dell is still chugging fine at 4.5+ years old.
I'm the opposite. I'm a designer too, and I'm still using my G4 powerbook I bought 10 years ago. Only thing that ever went bad, was the hard drive...and that was 2 years ago. Luckily I backed everything up. I love macs...especially for design. Can't wait for the Oct. 14. SUpposedly new macbooks and macbook pros are out. I need a new computer bad...never going back to PC.
