to my grandmother
She is the most loving person I know. And last week she got some kind of infection in her neck, and had major surgery. Her face swelled up three times the normal size. Thank god her friends found her when they did and took her to the emergency room. She is in the ICU right now trying to get better. She is going on 84 years old and she had the stamina of a 40 year old.
When I went in to see her for the first time, she was hooked up to all these machines like you would see in a movie. I couldn't hold my tears in; it just broke my heart seeing her in her bed with tubes everywhere. I can

its sad that you really notice how people are when you are down and out and really need them.
My grandmother too is one of the most amazing people and she's raised 6 incredible kids that I call my aunts and uncles. You'll never be able to spend enough time with your elders... if for nothing else, to learn how they deal with the experiences they've gone through.

Hey man,
Sorry to hear about that. I'm kind of going through something similar with my grandmother right now. She's 87 and has had some health issues that have really slowed her down. Spend as much time with her as you can - they're part of a rare generation that was one of the most significant in this country's history(or world history for that matter). It almost seems unfair to watch them fade away of health problems after what they've accomplished.

Reminds me of my grandfather... he and my grandmother live in LA, CA. He is 95 and had a bad fall last September and ever since he's been in the hospital. Once he got better my grandmother decided she couldn't take care of him anymore so they put him in the nursing home.
When I heard of this I couldn't help myself but to cry because that is just a death zone. The 1st nursing home didn't follow the doctor's instructions and fed him solid food when he needed the food to be broken up. Food went into his lungs and he had to go to the hospital. He came down with pneumonia and things just got bad. I went visit him because I didn't know how much longer he'd last. It was the worst feeling seeing him in ICU with all the machines to him. I couldn't take it so I just cried and cried.. Eventually though to EVERYONE's surprise he got better and was out... but once he went back in the nursing home he got ill again and back in the hospital. He went back and forth about 5 or 6 times already. This has been over the course of 6 months already! He is truly a fighter.. Last time he was actually able to speak to me he told me he wants to live until 100. He is truly making a struggle to do so...
It is true you can never spend too much time with your elders.. ANYTHING can happen... I pray for him every single night because I just hate seeing him that way. He can't speak to us now because he has a respirator tube going in his throat now. But when I go visit him he always has tears in his eyes and it just kills me seeing him that way.
Always respect those older than you because you really don't know when is the last time you'll see them.
And emrillive, my heart goes out to you man and I'll be praying for your grandmother also.

It's amazing how that stuff happens.
My grandma ate healthy, was active and never had any health problems. Her mother lived to be 96, smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day.
One day, all of the sudden she had a stroke and was in a coma, no warning signs, nothing. It was one of the worst things I'd ever seen seeing her hooked up like that. We decided to let nature do its course since we knew she wouldn't want to be hooked up to life support for another 30 years. It's just funny think that a weekend before, you'd pick up your granny in your new s2000 and take her for a drive, and then some clot in her brain turns her into something so helpless.
I wish you the best, it was one of the hardest things to see happen, but be grateful it's not worse, and she's still with you.
God Bless you and your granny.
