Here's answers to some questions:
btw, what are some of the maintenance costs, like oil changes and whatnot?
Annual service is about 1000 dollars. Other main maintainence costs are the tires (500 or more dollars each), clutch (usually 7k miles) about 5-7000 dollars. Of course with used cars you worry about things wearing out. Those things are expensive to replace.
1) What year is it?
2) Is it reliable?
3) As soon as the store starts picking up, I'll be looking into buying an exotic (hopefully), so if you don't mind, I'd like to ask: how expensive is it to maintain?
4) Are you going to be driving this car often or leaving it in the garage most of the time?
1) 2004 e-gear
2) depends on your definition of 'reliable' for an exotic car the Murcielago is reliable. Compared to an NSX it's unreliable. When you go to the garage to crank it there's a little fear that it might not crank and you'll have to then have it towed flatbed to an expensive diagnonostic shop. The Lambo forums are an invaluable source for quick fixes and diagnostics though.
3)See above. The easy answer is if you have a 1000 here and a 1000 there to spend and 10000 for some major unexpected problem then you are okay. If 10000 would put you in debt, I'd not go there. There are 2 things. New exotics are great because you have warranty and a new car, but depreciate like the dickens. Used exotics have depreciated, but the lack of warranty can be scary even in a well maintained car. They just are not built like Japanese cars and when you get to exotic land prices skyrocket.
4) The Murci will be occational use. It's hard to get in and out of the garage, it's big and bulky and too much car really for the street (it's got so much friggin power it's insane.)
On a side note, Raj, are those your pink shoes in the second pic?
I should take a licking the car wearing socks and sandals pic just for you bastages.
did you ever consider the smaller Gallardo?
I strongly considered the Gallardo. Then I figured if I go I'd go BIG. For all practical purposes the Gallardo is a better car. Newere design, more nimble etc. It's a great sports car whereas the Murci is a hypercar. I was messing with Tapout Tom about the G being a beginner's car. I came close to getting a gallardo superleggera. I found new demo ones for the same price as my used Murci but in the end I went for the insanity of the Murci.
Is now the right time to tell Raj about the upcoming McLaren?
I'm on the mailing list for this car. I want to see this vs the other cars in it's class to consider what I might buy after the Murci.
