Cool a thread to brag about how much money you have.

I can't afford a Ferrari but I can swing I high end bike. If you're not into it you'll never get it. Non car people can't tell a Miata from an Enzo but I think you'll agree that there is a difference. If you ride a $500 vs. $5,000 bike you'll notice quite a difference and not just the weight. If you're 50 lbs over weight a super bike would be frivolous. I'm 55 years old and still have a 32 inch waist, cycling, along with a lifelong love of sports cars is what I do. I raced back in the eighties and continue to ride to this day. Also I didn't pay $10k for these bikes. They would cost you that much if you strolled into your local bike shop but I bought them because thanks to this horrible economy I was able to pick them up for a fraction of that.
Well, more power to you. Enjoy your bikes then!

You got me there. I can't justify buying 2 high end road bikes within weeks of one another. I bought the Orbea Opal (the carbon fiber bike) because I felt it was time to enter the 21st century and sample some new technology. But then the Independant Fabrication (an old school steel frame) came up and being made by a local buider (Somerville,Ma.) it was such a great deal I couldn't pass on it. These are both full bore racing bikes the only difference being the Orbea will be lighter and stiffer than the steel Independant Fabrication. I'm old school and always enjoyed the feel of a well made steel bike.

By the way guys, I went to the TREK store today and there were plenty of bikes that were over 10k by themselves and a lot more at 5k+.

I'd like to know what s2020 has invested in his bikes.

$10K? Why? Do they get you in shape a million times faster than the average bikes? Are they some secret companions to share your feelings with? I'm not seeing the reason for the high cost, not even looks. With a Ferrari, it looks extraordinarily better than the average car, those bikes don't look any better than the average bikes, imo.

But anyway, buy what you like, it's your money.

a discerning person knows what makes an "XYZ" more beautiful and why it's more expensive.

to your aunt, a Ferrari looks like a Porsche or a S2000. She can't understand why one would spend more on a mere "car"

My mom can't tell the difference b/t a Patek vs a Seiko

To you a $1K bike is as beautiful as a $10K bike.
To me, I can appreciate the $10K bike more than the $1K.

"invested" is the wrong word to use. These bikes won't ever go up in value.

Let's just say all my bikes together is more than my cars.

One thing I'd like to point out to the uninformed is the diminishing return on your dollar once you get past a certain price point. While the $3,000 bike may be 3 times as good as the $1,000 one. The same can't be said for a $9,000 bike vs. a $3,000 one. Sort of the same way a Bugatti Veyron at well over a million dollars is no way 10 times better than a $100,000 Porsche. At some point you're paying for exclusivity and possibly snobbery. In any event whatever you ride you'll still have to pedal it.

I think a few of my buddies did that race last year, I only did a couple road races, a few time trials and a whole bunch of triathlons last year.

I really love the Onix, it is just soo comfortable, can ride all day without anything but the usual saddle soreness that comes with 6 hours on the bike.
