In theory this could work.
I would guess that some car remotes use some form of magnetic induction to transmit the signal to lock and unlock. Phones are sensitve to these signals because of the magnet in the receiver. In theory with an older phone and an induction remote I suppose this would be possible. However, most current cell phones do not have large enough magnets on the receiver to function with an induction coil system. This is observed when trying to get new hearing aids to talk to new cell phones using the common "telecoil" that hearing impaired people can use to talk on the phone.
