Need advice
Personally if I let someone borrow my bike I wouldn't expect them to pay for it. If I want my bike to be in perfect shape I'll pay for full coverage and not let anyone ride it (thats what i do with my car). I let people ride my bike but just because it is old and I'm only concerned with it running, not as much with looks. I always tell people before they ride though "If you break something you don't have to fix it unless I need it for the bike to run/ride properly."
Also, you're friend is an idiot for letting someone ride a bike that powerful without ever having ridden before, I'm cautious about people riding my 600 that don't have much experience, much less none. You made an awful choice by not only riding, but riding without pads/helmet or even a shirt.
All that being said, if it was my friend I'd pay for it, or at least talk about splitting it if he is ok with that. I think he is just as responsible for not warning you about it if he didn't. You may have known that it was a bad idea, but most people with no riding experience don't understand how easy it is to screw things up on a 1000cc bike.

That's arbitration.
Looking at it completely seriously and without knowing the details, insurance typically follows the vehicle and the bike's owner gave consent to the OP to operate it. In other words, the owner and, if he chose to involve them, his insurance company, are most likely responsible for the damages. The owner of the bike can go after the OP in court for reimbursement of the damages or premium.
If the owner doesn't file insurance, he would still have to force the OP to pay through small claims court. If the OP had injured someone else, the owner also probably could have also been liable for negligence by letting an unlicensed (assuming you need to be licensed in FL to ride a motorcycle) driver operate his bike.
As it is though, the OP learned his lesson, no one got killed, and he should just pay his friend for the damages. I mean...it's a friend...shouldn't be a hard decision.

100% your fault. Pay up and anyone that told you not to, punch them and yourself in the face.

In Florida you are not required to have motorcycle insurance, so thats besides the point.

I said i took fault here for my choice. That's uncalled for. The people i have talked to are riders and my original post was coming from their point of views, which i allowed to change mine over time. This being them never letting anyone without experience ride there bikes and saying he should've known this was gonna happen. I've talked to a few of them since my original post and it seems these opinions of what to do are very different. You could have simply said hey you were wrong pay for it but instead you lashed out at me and thats not how i'd expect a moderator from this site to behave. Im sorry if you dislike my original post. In fact im sorry i didn't take the time to construct it better so people would understand the whole picture. I did write in a sort of biased fashion and shifted the blame on him. Thats wrong but i don't think i deserve to be talked to like that after i've admitted guilt and changed my perception on the situation
