Default Need advice On Civic engine Build up

My Son RJ (My co-pilot at Asheville) wants to start the build up of an engine for a civic. He starts driving in a little over a year so he has lots of time. The S2000 is my first Honda, I've built alot of engines but no Hondas. So I don't have alot of first hand knowledge. We've done alot of reasearch and are looking for a B16A1. A B18C1 would be best (C30A1 would actually be best) but probably very hard to find. Sound like a good place to start?

Ya, B18 or B16 is good place to start. I would go with B18(Type-R motor) and put a Turbo kit. You could go with H22 if you want but it will he harder to put H22 into a Civic then B18.

All depends on the buget and purpose for the car
Buget is high and the car is for school then go with the type R engine B18C5.. make sure you got the same year engine or newer. This ingine would be a bolt on to a 96 up civic.

B16 on the other hand is one of the best engines out there with the perfect rod ratio for high RPMS. Very nice engine to build but dificult to make 200 hp NA

B18C5 (type R) would be very easy to make 200 Hp (it has 185-195 hp already).

If it is a hatch back, I would go with a Type R engine then look for a type R suspension and get the type R rims.. then you will have a hatch back with a civic type R look but with an ITR engine. I have seen one here in N cal and I love it!!

OK Thanks. Whooopasss, Why keep the engine to the same year or newer. Emissions rules or fit?

Yup, emissions regulations require same year or higher. I would think it would be very hard to find an ITR engine.

What type of Civic does he have? Year is also important, due to the extra O2 sensor for 96+ model.
As for the motors:
B16A1/A2 is 160hp, and it will runs you around 1300 complete (ECU, tranny,ect...). This little motor is extremely potentials. There are tons of after-market parts for this motor. Including a stroker kit (form JUN i think), which will stroke it to a 1.8litre and it can holds up to 1000hp.

B18C1/C5(GSR/ITR). Are the best N/A motor for this car. The cost of this motors is extremely high now due to high demands. Hybrid is the way to go these days. You're looking around 4G+, and there might be a waiting list.

H22A(prelude). Big heavy motor. This will require some major cutting to get it to fit. Good motor if you're looking for a Drag Racing type. This motor is cheaper than both the B18C1/C5. It runs around 3G.

Nick.....
If you have any questions about motors, or want to purchase one, drop me a PM.

Nick,

I may be interested in sourcing an H22a. Looking for a 93-95 if possible. However, if it can't be found than try sourcing me a '00 or '01 (or if you're feeling lucky, try finding my a type S motor from the Type S Prelude in Japan).

With the motor, I'd need the Jap spec VTEC AND 4WS ECU, intake manifold, type S throttle body, all wiring and harnesses, maybe the tranny (if price is right), and might need some help bolting it up...

Can you help?
