need computer help!

Default need computer help!

past few days, my comcast cable internet has been reaaaaaaaally unstable. it'd get super slow, then some pages wont even load at all (get DNS error msg). is this a computer, router, or network problem???? help!

let's assume it's my computer.. can spywares or viruses only slow down/mess up internet connection? everything else about the computer is fine..

Yes, but I'm going to assume its a network issue. How often does this happen? Have you tried hard-resetting the modem and router?

comcast has been f*ckin' up a lot for me too...
once i had no connection for 4 days..
now my connection feels slower... damn comcast..

Reset the router, check for spyware and virus. Hook up another 'clean' computer to the router and check if the problems are repeated. If not, your currently hooked PC might be borked.

Always make sure to use NAT/Firewall enabled routers, and if you wanna start playing with stuff, you could always start packet capturing to see if someone is messing with your line.

If you start getting DNS errors and pages not found, the error could either be because the router is poisoned* (rare), someone is hogging all of your bandwidth and possibly DOS'sing (denial of service) you or your cable company just svcks...


* means that the DNS/IP/ARP/MAC cache was overwritten with illegal or false entries
