Need help with iTunes
So I download (AKA bought) a few songs on Apple iTunes just now. I was going to load them into my Samsung MP3 player to go to the gym but the songs don't play on the MP3. After trying for a good part of an hour, I gave up.
I think Apple wants you to buy their MP3 player, the iPod but I already have my own MP3 player. I don't want to plunk down more $$ just to play songs I buy from them
Can anyone help? Thanks.

You can't copy the AAC(m4p) files that the iTunes music store sells to any other mp3 player than the iPod. It's the only portable music player that supports the DRM in the iTunes files. Just another reason that the current online music offerings are too restrictive and overpriced for what you get. Your only choice would be to convert the files, but you would lose some quality. You can do this by burning those m4p files to a CD and then ripping that CD to mp3 and then don't buy any more crap from the iTunes music store.
Oh.
Thanks Wicker. That is not right. Basically, it's a form of monopoly from Apple.

. Plus, it's cheaper for me (time vs. money) to download songs instead of going around the net looking for songs. Also, I heard Kazaa has some unsavory programs so I'd rather not.
I think there is a competitor to iTunes but not sure of the website.
I may pay a visit to the Apple store today. Maybe they can help me.
The iPod is way too large to go exercising with so I went to a miniscule Samsung.

There's nothing anybody at the apple store can do for you other than sell you an ipod because the technology needed to play these files is only present in the ipod and apple hasn't licensed any other manufacturers to use it yet. You should be able to use files from all of the other online music stores because they use the windows media format that most mp3 players other than the ipod support. There are many different versions, the new napster, buymusic, and some others that will sell you digital music files you'll be able to use with your samsung. The only way you'll be able to use the itunes files you've already bought is to burn them to a cd and then rip it to mp3.
I'm not sure why you're surprised about apple's proprietary behavior on this. That's what they've been doing for the last 20 years and it's partly responsible for their whopping 5% market share they have in the pc market compared to the 90%+ market that windows has.

You're right Wicker.
F*ck Apple.
Thanks for the suggestion on Napster & buy music.
Also, I'll look into imesh. But I'm looking for only a few songs and it's not worth it to browse around for hours. I'd rather go to work to earn the $$ to pay for those few songs. Now get back to studying for finals Evo!!
