The review referenced above seems to side more for the d50. It's a de-contented version of the d70 that seems to have better processing (or rather lack of extensive processing). PLus it has the dslr type feel whereas the XT is a smaller prosumer type body.

All the head-on reviews seem to flip flop between the XT and d50 (sometimes the *ist and e-330 are thrown in the ring too). I'd say it comes down to which feels better to you.

 

Go handle them both. I don't figure you can really make a bad choice between them.
