Need some S2ki opinions!
Well guys, I'm in a pretty awkward situation with my job right now, and was wondering what others would do in my situation. First off, i'm 22 yrs. old, and a part-time college student. Unfortunetely, I do still live at home. More to the point, I work for Ryder Integrated Logistics in Charlotte NC, as a dispatcher. As of November, they switched my hours to 3rd shift(10pm-7am). I was working 2nd shift until the 3rd shift person quit, now i'm doing it(i'm the newest employee). They have been blowing smoke up my A$$ about when they would be hiring someone else for the job. Well school just started for me today and i'm having to work all night long and go to school at 10:00 in the morning. This sucks big time! I just found out that they arent going to hire someone until mid Feb. The other two employees there have senority over me, and aren't willing to help out with the shift. Just to add, my main expenses are my car(s2k) and school. I guess I could do without the s2k, but don't want to. I can't go on working like this with such little sleep and trying to concentrate on school. What should I do??? Sell my car?(in order to move out) Tough it out
Or quit my job and try to find another? Sorry about the long post, but before I do something unreasonable, I thought I would get some other perspectives.
Any help would be great!! Hope I didn't sound like I was whining to much.

I assume that if you had been working second shift you'd have been sleeping during the third shift hours.
Given that, if you work third shift can't you sleep during the second shift hours? You may need to get opaque draperies, but it seems workable to me.
Am I missing something?

Magician,
your right, I was sleeping during the 3rd shift hours(at night). And now, I work all night, come home at 7:00am, sleep for 2 hrs. wake up, and go to school. after school, I come back home and sleep for a little while. Hope that clears things up.

I'd say forgo the car... get a decent or moderate job and relieve yourself of a whole lot of stress. You don't need extra distractions through college... and eliminating the car, albiet a hard bullet to bite, will be one that will make the situation better all the way around...
1) no stress of trying to take care of the car
2) no stress of trying to work a crappy job(with apparently bad management)
3) you can focus on school as you should be doing in the first place.
no one gets awards for how well they did in school vs the stack of adversities set against them.... only how well they did in school.
Unless you believe this job is going to be a career job that is going to yeild dividends in the future, that's my advice.

Get a new job. This does not mean go out and quit right now. Put together a resume and just send it out everywhere, keep your job while your doing all this. If worst comes to worse Id keep the job and the car. It's a tough life but soon you'll be out of school and have a new and im assuming better job. A little hard work is good for you anyways.
Thanks for your replies. Selling the car would in fact releive lots of financial pressure, but its so difficult to go through with it! I can't really tell if this job has a future for me or not, There are lots of people with more senority than me, and management isn't to great. Anyway, whatever I decide to do, I will continue to work hard.

Naturally, it is tough to sell the car. But doing so will make your life so much better. It hurts, but ultimately it is only temporary. Get through the stuff you gotta do know, and then buy a newer/better S2K when you are done and have a kick-ass reward for yourself.
