New Virus or Hoax?
I just got an email to delete the file sulfnbk.exe from my computer because it's supposed to be a virus of some sort just waiting for the right day to open. The last time I received one of these emails there was an email right after it that said don't delete said file because it wasn't actually a virus, it was a prank by someone to get people to delete a file they actually needed but didn't know enough about computers to know it. Anyone know what this file does?

No, no, no.... don't delete it!!! In fact don't ever do anything a virus warning says - don't delete files, don't forward it to "eveyone you know"...
When in doubt, go to one of the virus manufacturers web sites: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...xe.warning.html They'll almost always be able to debunk the myth.
Here's a couple of ways to spot virus hoaxes:
* They come via email (think of how many real viruses there are there, something in the tens of thousands, and do you ever get an email warning about those?)
* They were announced from a reputable source ("IBM said this morning" or "This comes from AOL" - if anyone ever bothered to check, they'd find this to not be true. The really funny ones are the IBM ones where their own Antivirus site debunks it)
* They ask you to take action (send it to everyone you know, ask you to send emails to help poor little timmy get a wheelchair, ask you to delete files).

if you need more details i can get them for you-
(by the way, you should still virus-check your machines regularly and should also update your virus definitions too).
