Sorry, BS flag on this one. If you are working until failure, you don't have the time to check your surroundings and check for people's toes. If you can no longer hold the weight, it drops immediately. If you DO look around and scan your surroundings, that means you can easily place the weight on the floor with no problems.
I disagree, if you're holding the weights with your elbows locked and checking before you let it down its easy. My chest can press up a lot more weight than my biceps can curl, i cant exactly just bend my arms down and safely set the weights down if i'm doing proper weights for my chest, but i can pay attention before i release my elbows and come down to my chest height and drop them the rest of the way to the floor.

Put earbuds in. Problem solved.

The gym I work out at has a lot of pros/big guys (Powerhouse downtown Tampa). It can be as intimidating as it motivating... but when they're squatting 600LBS and benching upwards of 400.... my "grunting is annoying" complaints are hardly valid...

The guy in the video is an asshat.

Does it have any cons?

at a certain level of training the exhale is almost necessary. Its a big part of alot of sports i.e. tennis, power lifting, karate etc.
my friends and I had to relocate to a "meathead" 4 walls and mirrors style gym because one of us had a "grunting" problem.

I can see it being a problem at normal ymca and chick style places, but if you have barbells that are over 100 pounds you are asking for meatheads to be there to begin with. If you lower the amount of weight there you can eliminate the meatheads before they even sign the contract. trust me.

Exactly. When I squat 600lbs and above (750 max; super duper strong legs!), I'd have to grunt at least a little, but I don't scream. The volume of my grunt also depends on the # of people at the gym.

I am more impressed by the mirrors in the first video....Did they withstand the barbell being thrown at them and not break or was it just my eyes not seeing the breakage while the camera panned to follow the asshat?
I'm thinking a plastic mirror and not a glass mirror.
