no grunting at planet fitness
Its perfectly normal to grunt. Releasing air without control or making noise when you're under extreme stress and experiencing pain is a requirement. I do it all the time when Im lifting heavy. I often do it accidentally and I feel very embarrased, so for that, "no grunting" policies are total bull shit. If you dont grunt once in a while, you arent training right. (assuming you want to be big/strong)
I dont mind grunting, even if it is obnoxious because it pisses me off and I use it for my own lifts when I get mad. If you dont like it, wear head phones. I'd rather hear grunting among the throng of other noises of people yelling and talking than to have to work out in a gym where I listen to other people breathing like they're having an orgasm. Gyms are supposed to be loud.

Put earbuds in. Problem solved.
The gym I work out at has a lot of pros/big guys (Powerhouse downtown Tampa). It can be as intimidating as it motivating... but when they're squatting 600LBS and benching upwards of 400.... my "grunting is annoying" complaints are hardly valid...
The guy in the video is an asshat.

Although from our keyboard perspective he does look like a retard. Anyone who trains can put themselves in his situation... when you're in "the zone" you tend to forget about being polite and you're trying to focus on your training. If some dumb desk jockie interupted my workout to tell me to stop breathing so loud, I'd do the exact same thing he did, except I would have dropped my pants and shit on the carpet on my way out.

Thank you, that was the exact video I was quoting
And if you disagree, you're probably weak and mediocre. I've never met anyone who can bench/squat/dead their true 1RM without making any noise.

Grunting a bit is fine, screaming is not. That's the consensus.
I just watched the first vid, and I didn't hear him scream or grunt because the video cut into the middle of the alarm sound. However, that guy was lucky he was in such a gym, instead of a gym full of bodybuilders and such; he'd be confronted and subdued. I hope they called the cops and made him clean up everything. He looks to be a big, muscular guy, probably 6'2" and 230lbs.
P.S. I don't like (loud) grunters myself, even though I sometimes grunt a little bit, but softly.

If you did that shit (throw barbells) close to me, I'd subdue you and wait until they call the police.

details on how you would subdue him, are we talking choke hold or a direct socker in the mellon?
Or I wrestle and pin him down, resorting to techniques from my wrestling days in high school and college. I'd do it quickly so he wouldn't have a chance to throw punches.
its funny someone mentioned exhaling like a BOV... cuz that's what i do
but when a squat i do tend to grunt softly...
when i'm in the f'ing zone and focused training i can careless whose watching or listeing too me.i go hard and train hard although i try to be as polite and respectful as possible by whipping down machines, benches etc..
im annoyed by members at my gym that stand in the way of my workout talking about girls getting pounded or bs... if ur not using the weights or machines gtfo
someone mentioned sweating... i sweat alot my bad... i do clean after myself tho
used to go to LifeTime fitness but too many aggressive meathead screaming and trying to always jump in ur set or hurry u up. and the girls go there for the potentiol baby daddy's, i'm not hating on the ladies but cuz they look good but just makes for a more congested gym...that is all... now i go to the local gym, Cardinal Fitness cheap and gets the job done.
