Problem is, if I go used from someone, I have to sell my car myself. That means income tax. And I'd have to time it perfectly so I'm not without a car. The best option for me really is to just try to trade it in. Maybe I can haggle the dealership down.

I sold my 2000 Accord and bought a temporary $500 dollar car. Saved up some cash and bought one from a private party. It can be done if you want it bad enough. I loved my S that much more after suffering in a '79 Toyota Corolla for 6 months.

Any time you sell a car the person buying it pays a sales tax, but there is no income tax unless (in the very rare occassion) you sold the car for more than you paid for it. There is no income because you are always selling for a loss.

I've always wanted the S ever since I saw it in the showroom when it first came out. I was kicked out of a dealership for sitting in the S too long (hour) back in high school. I worked quite a bit in my younger years so I paid off a brand new Prelude with essentially a big briefcase full of cash. Anyways, I'm telling you, be patient. I wanted the S when I started college, but it just wasn't oging to happen. I handed down my 2 year old 15,000 mile Prelude to my little brother and started college carless. At the end of freshman year I save up enough to purchase a 1992 Civic Si. I started to fix it up, doing mods that would bring up the value of the car, rather than lower it (ie. new built motor, new interior etc, instead of altezzas and 18" American Racing brick rims). I ended up selling the car for a little over double what I bought it for and took a minimal loss. This was just over a month ago. I finally got off my lazy arse and looked around to get a better job. Found what I wanted and on June 16, I took out a loan and paid for an S2000. July 20, I took delivery.
Reason I'm sayin' this is if I can do it with a full class schedule (and I know at least 3 other S owners locally that go to school and are working), you can do it too. Just be patient and look for the right time and opportunity for everything to come together. Good luck.
