I don't understand why Californians need to create new words or terms when there are so many real words to learn and use. Most people don't know a fraction of the English language and have very limited vocabularies already. Guess it's more important to try to be cool than smart....

I think creation of words comes from trying to shorten the words used... maybe there are better words to be used, but sometimes that comes off as being snobbish. I know I can be sensitive to stuff like that... when someone starts using huge flowery words and references, it comes off as snobby sometimes. For me it's not what words you use, but how you say it... if you can appeal and get your message across to a larger audience, you are doing better. Using bigger words doesn't earn you any props in my book other than an occasionally interesting word.
