Wait wait wait. . . so, let me get this straight:

1. You had a set of problems.
2. You acquired the right tool to address that set of problems.
3. You did so while overcoming a perceived notion that control over the system might be less effective than coherent system integration?

Go eff yourself. You have no business in this thread.

Another thing I'd like to add is the build quality on my almost 3 year old MBP is still better than any brand new Windows laptop I've owned (or had the opportunity to use at a store or colleagues'). The buttons are all intact and firm with no rubbed off letters, the screen has no dead pixels and still sits firm when lifted up and transported while open. I could go on but I won't.

PS- In an attempt to make not sound like an Apple fanatic, I hate the iPhone and what Apple is doing with it software/OS wise.

Vista = Windows 7 plain and simple. The code is the same exact thing.

Stupidity or ignorance? You decide:

http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC561LL/A

The page image posted is for the previous model Mac Pro and the pricing and build options are based on the previous generation at end of life which naturally offers the oldest options at prices set more than a year earlier when they were the newest options.

Build a Dell Precision desktop with essentially the same bits as the ***CURRENT*** MacPro model and the results aren't quite as dramatic.

Dell Precision T7500:

Dual Quad Core Intel® Xeon® Processor E5620, 2.40GHz,12M L3, 5.86GT/s, turbo
3 Year Basic Limited Warranty and 3 Year NBD On-Site Service
Precision T7500 Power Supply
6GB, DDR3 RDIMM Memory, 1333MHz, ECC (6 DIMMS)
1GB ATI FirePro V5800, Triple MON, 2 DP & 1 DVI
C1 All SATA or SSD drives, Non-RAID, 1 drive total configuration
Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Services, 30-days
Integrated LSI 1068e SAS/SATA 3.0Gb/s controller
1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200 RPM Hard Drive with 32MB DataBurst Cache™
16X DVD-ROM with Cyberlink Power DVD™ No Media
No Monitor
No Floppy Drive and No Media Card Reader

=== $3478

with 2x6 core 2.66 Xeon CPUS: $5274 (compared to $4999 for the Mac Pro)

Apple Mac Pro:

Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (8 cores)
6GB (6X1GB)
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
One 18x SuperDrive
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) & User's Guide

=== $3499

with 2x6 core 2.66Ghz CPUs: $4999, almost $300 less than the Dell

Yawn. Keep up the good work!

Sure, massage the options lists but in the end there is but a couple hundred bucks between them at most, a difference on less than 10%

Does everyone who says that their Mac is built better than the PC it replaced automatically a Mac fanboi or only those people whom you choose? Just trying to understand the pure arbitrary, out-of-your-ass personal judgement system you have.

Yep, I know.

Still, a benefit of a Mac is build quality, which they control, vs. having to deal with the crap that HP/Dell/Toshiba puts out. Sony is the only manufacturer that builds decent quality laptops in general.

There is no question that a Apple's build quality is better than any similarly marketed product (namely it's "closest", most recent PC competitor, the HP Envy).

I also think the iPhone's build quality is better than my Incredible's, but with mobile tech., I'm a power-user, and a jailbroken iPhone still blows hard, IMO.

It's pretty. I don't see how it is so hard to understand that what appeals to one buyer doesn't appeal to another, and that's ok? It's not over-priced if the market will pay it; I know markets aren't perfectly efficient, but demand is huge for Apple products and so they can price them higher than competitors. If PC makers are jealous, then they can mobilize to compete and drive down prices overall by undercutting apple. But the product has to be better, and unfortunately for lots of brands, they don't offer the fully integrated software/hardware package that apple does with the iPhone, iPad, iPod line, etc...
Dude, you are so F'n out of line!!!

Take your common sense and thoughtful reasoning and "cram it" - to paraphrase 8D

You think you can come in here with all of your "logic" and make sense? Well I've got some bad news for you. All you'll find here are a bunch of self-rightous, narcissistic asshats who can only feel any sense of satisfaction by running down and mocking others. This isn't about technology - or sense - this is about deep psychological issues and not being hugged enough as a child.

You have no right to make personal choices that suit you. The must only do what others say you should because you'll make them insecure and angry if you don't.

You insensitive, thoughtless bastard!
