Some people just don't want to know the truth about Macs.

you're missing the point. Not to turn this into a domestic vs. import debate, but hondas are so much better built than pontiacs. his point is that a honda is inherently better made and designed. Trust me, I've driven a solstice gxp and it's like a turbo charged turd on four wheels with an interior made out of bits of plastic from discarded happy meals.
So how are Macs built better than PCs when they do the same exact things. This isn't a car, who cares if the Mac has a better tower, big whoop.

I have used computers for 10 years and have NEVER had a virus. All I did was upgrade my virus definition every once in a while. Is that so hard?

And what, Macs NEVER go bad? They are super computers that NEVER have problems. For all the people that use Macs without any problems, it's becasue you know how to upkeep a computer to prevent problems. Chances are, the people who are having those stupid little problems with a PC will have the same problems with a Mac.

And if you do not like the PC because of the Windows software and how "unreliable" it is, I will admit that Windows 98 and ME are total crap, but the reliability gap was closed with the release of Windows XP.

Oh, they do, they do. Our iMac G5 crapped out about a month ago with a well-known power supply problem. Apple had it fixed in 3 hours.

Some users are complaining about whining and fan noises on the new MacBook pros. Some portables have battery issues.

Sure there are problems.

Here's the problems we don't have:
Dumbass driver issues, viruses, spyware, software that litters itself all over the drive.

Granted, quite a bit of the viruses and spyware issues are due to the fact that the installed base isn't big enough to make it worthwhile. BUT because of the "Macs don't get viruses" mantra going all over the Internet, people have been trying to make proof-of-concept viruses and they don't work! The best they can come up with is a Trojan, and there's no protecting the system from a stupid user.

My wife and I like our computers because we don't need to deal with them aside from getting what we want done.

Now, I also used Windows 2000 and that hardly ever crashed. The stability of Microsoft OS's has improved considerably over the past few years. But the point is, even with virus checkers and spyware detectors, these machines still get infected. Not by users like you or me, but by the "other" people. The unwashed masses that like sending chain letters and replying to spam. I've been using PC's from 1986 or so until 2001 and never got infected with any virus or worm. That's because I know how to be careful.

The original point of this thread was what would be a good computer for someone's sister - a non-tech person. Uses: Internet, Word, iTunes. Good wireless and battery life. That's a Macbook. If a Macbook is too much $$$ then go with a PC that costs less. That's what the Mac zealots say here. The PC zealots can only say Macs suck, can't run any programs, and cost too damn much.

the thing is your buyinga honda engine a honda trany compaired to a pontiac engine/tranny. With these computers you're going to be comparing an intel processor with an intell processor a Nvida video card with an Nvida video card. but for some reason the apple logo increases the price. I think the thread has run its course. Everyone understands everyones elses opinion. It really has just come down to personal preference. Both have pros and cons.

That's all? The only thing Mac users can say is that if you're a moron you'll get viruses on a PC.

Evidently you didn't read the sentence before the one you quoted.
