OH SNAP! HE DROPPED THE LINUX BOMB!
Come to think about bam If I bought the same configuration in a PC saved over a grand and installed Linux then I wouldn't have to worry about viruses and as we all know all the programs that people really use run on Linux too Hell I can get open office for FREE and save even more money, all with the same reliability and security of the MAC OS X at even a greater than 1k savings.

We can all say wait for this or that all day long, Wait for Vista wait for the next windows after vista. etc...

but i have worked with both, starting out in design with MACS, a g4...

they cost more, but were no ways near as fast or functional as my PC...

I can have Quark, Illustrator, and Photoshop running, along with web, and document files open and my PC runs seemlesly

and what i design looks incredible on my laptops 17 in truebright LCD.
throw in an ATI mobile card and you have your graphics..

I just cannot see how people can justify spending close to a thousand dollars more for less than what they could be getting...

heres an idea, worried about windows security?? get educated, take that extra cash your saving and buy some protection, or buy some books, read them, and learn your shit!
well, i guess it is my word against your word as far as this is concerned. i find my web apps final product runs better on a pc, i hate flash on mac, they cannot seem to get it right even after 8 versions???

BUT i will take the pepsi challenge on a quad G5 vs. whatever you have.

Okay so the first one was $1000 cheaper than the apple comparable still, just like I said.

The one you priced for comparison to the G IS A XEON PROCESSOR! Not a comparison at all.

Gateway uses intel, Theres is $800 while apple is $2,200.

SO yes the APPLE is way over priced.

Heres your compairable
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/infxlc.asp?v=d
2 7900 gt video cards 3.4 Ghz processor. 1 gig of memory 250GB hard drive

nearly $1,000 less and a WAY WAY WAY Better set up.

I don't know why you would compaire a workstation Xeon to a MAc unless you either didn't realize it or just wanted to make it look different from reality.

$1555.00
(before all applicable rebates)
CASE: CoolerMaster Praetorian 730 RC-730 Aluminum Tower 420W Case (Silver Color)

ARE YOU REALLY SAVING MONEY?
A couple of nitpicks:

1. Your forgot to add the wireless/bluetooth to the Dell.

2. It isn't fair to Apple or Dell to pick the expensive processors for the Dell machine.

I was able to spec out a Dell notebook for $1114 but that is with no webcam.

I was also able to spec out the Dell workstation w/4 Xeon cores for $2249 matching the Apple specs as closely as I could.

Best Apple has to offer != Best Dell has to offer.

I suggest waiting for the expected Mac Pro announcements so we can do direct comparisons. The Quad G5 is a nice machine, but it is a bit dated - it's been out a while now.

Whe Powermac is a workstation-class machine. If you can shove 4 cores in a non-Xeon system (let's assume intel for now) how would you do it?

The problem is the Quad G5 has been out for a while, and it's a stale configuration. Let's see what comes out at the WWDC next month and do a comparison then. Until then I will concede the G5 Quad core is an expensive beast.

Look man, calm down i don't want to fight with you.

i am merely saying you get what you pay for. yes, that machine is nearly $1000 cheaper. but why didn't you select this option:

Intel

Well have to wait for a dual processor PD board. Then we'll compare.
