good wireless and battery life?

Welcome to every new wireless card in the world and every lithium-ion battery.

Apple doesn't actually make their batteries and they are using intel processors which use the same amount of energy from computer to computer.

Apple can run most, not all, but most programs, yea lets jump up and down. Strong point

I'm joking around with you , just a little razzin'

I like how this article starts out in today's Wall Street Journal:

[QUOTE]

Saftety Tips To Help You Avoid Latest Theft Scams

If you're running a Windows computer, you must install an array of security software to fend off an international collection of crooks, hackers, vandals and sleazy business people who aim to invade your PC through the Internet.

You need a good antivirus program, a strong firewall program, an effective antispam program, and a program that specializes in stopping spyware and adware.

Oh great a article by an obvious moron.

You don't have to install anything, you don't even need a virus checker, you just have to know how to actually configure and run a computer. But besides that, don't run windows then run linux and be done with it

That article is by Walt Mossberg, and if you're calling him a moron, you really have a bias against Macs that is way off base.

Well as on any forum there will be the fanatical Apple and AMD volunteer salesmen. Go for the sub-$500 Dell. It will require no maintenance. It will be, for a light user, equally as functional and reliable as any other computer. If it gets dropped you are out 500 instead of a grand. Email, Myspace, and IM don't require any real horsepower, and as long as she is working in the Windows environment, there is a lot more free/pirate software for her to choose from. Sure, a mac can boot windows but then what is the point of buying Apple?

The virus/malware stuff is an overblown concern. For $0 she can use her campus-supplied virus software and Mozilla Firefox with Adblock and Noscript.

This is going to be a girl's computer so it's going to be fuglied up in ways that I can't describe... Might as well go for the smallest and lightest one that fits in your budget.

Bias against MACS? I think you have a bias against PCs. It's obviouse he's an idiot when it comes to computers because its a fact that if you set it up correctly a PC will never get infected unless you do something stupid.
