In the end, the PC vs Apple debate is moot because there's +'s and -'s to both machines and everyone has their personal preferences. However, for all of the PC lovers - how many of you have actually owned a mac? Now I'm just assuming, but I bet you about 95% of all the people that are Apple lovers have actually owned one or more PCs in the past. I've owned about 3 PCs in the past, but eventually got into using macs for their multimedia abilities and just fell in love with them. Honestly, it does everything a "normal" computer user needs and more. It has a more user friendly and stable OS, etc etc....I could go on and on.

I also find it funny that many of my "PCs rule and macs suck" friends own ipods and use itunes and they love them both. Yet they still think macs suck. If apple is able to make a great piece of hardware and a similarly awesome piece of software and make them both work together seemlessly, why WOULDN'T you give their computers a chance. In my opinion, their computers are just as awesome as their ipods.

Macs DID suck... then OS X came out and the sucking went away.

The Powermac I bought in 2001 was a great purchase. Nearly $3800 with the LCD display ($2700 for the computer alone), that expensive beast is still running on my desk today. It will be 5 years old this October and is still perfectly usable even though the Macs sold today are more than 4x faster.

The only thing it won't do is run COD 2 at an acceptable framerate. COD + the expansion pack run great on it.

Very true - macs DID suck, but as many of us know, times have changed. I think a lot of people that dislike macs just haven't realized how far they've come. Since Jobs came back to Apple, macs have gotten significantly easier to use (thanks OSX), more stylish, cheaper (mac mini in particular but even laptops, etc.), more compatible (they can run pretty much any program a typical computer user would need...heck they even run windows now). If macs simply aren't your thing, I can totally understand. PCs are still cheaper and many people are simply used to how windows is layed out. HOWEVER, if you really think macs sucks...you owe yourself another look.

[QUOTE=tinkfist,Jul 24 2006, 04:06 PM] I do not want to argue on this because there really is no winner. I will agree that if price is a top concern, then maybe a Mac is not the way to go. My recommendation was on the basis of value, and personally I think that Mac's give you more value for the money.

FWIW, I've owned my Powerbook for almost 2 years now and I have yet to have any problems minor or major.

The Mac vs. PC arguement is truely the dumbest arguement ever.
Oh, I don't know. There's Shatner vs Picard, Coke vs Pepsi, Great taste vs less filling, Ford vs Chevy... there's a few.

Buy a Mac if... you like trendy things, do *serious* photo editing or *serious* video editing, wear sunglasses that are way too big for your head, or have some extra bucks to spend. They are good computers, compatibility is getting better, are reliable.
You can buy a Dell XPS, Alienware, a Viao, that Armstrong laptop, or even a Ferrari laptop if you want to be trendy with a Wintel. As for *serious* work, yes, its better on a Mac, but you can also do unserious stuff. The built in apps like iPhoto, iTunes, Mail, etc make everyday computing easy too.

Buy a PC if...you're on a budget, do normal photo and video work, and aren't concerned with looking "cool" when you whip out the computer in Panera or Starbucks.
Buy a PC if... no, don't buy a PC if you can help it.

Lets face it, if you're an idiot with computers, switching over to the Mac OS will be difficult at the very least. Anyone with some computer sense can get a PC to work just as well as a mac, albeit with some differences in graphical use.
This is such a fallacy - Macs are easy to use computers. The hardest part in using them is recognizing that when you want to do something, its one step, not four, like in Windows. Unless you know a lot about computers, you will get into more trouble using Windows than Mac any day of the week. If you do know a lot about computers, you just know what work you need to do to keep your Windows computer running. Macs are pretty much maintenance free - no defragging needed, no spyware detectors, no adware detectors, and no real need for virus protection.

The biggest factor is however, if you are on a budget, DONT BUY A MAC. You can buy less expensive PC's with less options. Mac doesn't really offer a stripped down version of their computers.

-Dewey
This is a good point. If you can't afford one, then you don't get one - all Macs are pretty feature rich. Same thing with buying a car - you pay for what you get, and you have to pay to play. Can't afford the S2000? Get a Solstice.

With comments like:

The American people speak with the $$$ if apple had two brain cells they would get off of the whole proprietary kick and realize that shit kills companies. it killed apple once and they made it out of the fire with the IPOD. That ship has sailed and is now going to be passed by a motor boat.

Microsoft will take such a chunk out of that market. Just like Xbox robbed SONY of its glory days.
and a screenname like 'exceltoexcel', maybe he works for Microsoft!

excel, do you work for Microsoft?
