Odd thoughts
My odd thought
Wouldn't it be nice if big companies that employed thousands of people chose different days for their weekends instead of your typical Saturday and Sunday? I know this wouldn't be good for school and church but great for traffic congestions.

that's a horrible thought. the point of having a consensus "weekend" is so that MOST friends and families will have common days where they can spend with each other. if different companies have their "weekends" on different days, then that defeats the whole intended purpose. if you are concerned about traffic, then choose a job where your work schedule does not conincide with the majority of the populations'. either that or you can find housing that is local to your work. another reason why having different "weekend days" for different companies is a bad idea is because most, if not all, companies rely on the interaction and services of other businesses. if different companies work on different days, then that would make the whole economy less efficient.
For years, I worked at a site that had 24/7/365 staffing. People who had to work traditional weekends would do anything to bid and get Saturday/Sunday off, including moving to third shift. While your idea has some merit, it is almost as unworkable as a 12 month school year.
I have a better idea. How about all businesses that people need on their days off stay open on Saturday and Sunday. Like the parts department at Honda! Nothing more frustrating then a business that shuts down on the days where customers would need them the most.
Prime example... I need my alarm installed in my S2k. Called a well recommended install shop and get this answer: "install will take 3-4 hours... we don't do installs on Saturday and we are closed on Sunday. Oh and our weekday hours are the same as your work schedule... we open at 9am and close at 5pm" So how the F-ck am I supposed to get my car there without taking time off from work?
