Default Okay, I registered for AIM. Now what?

Okay, my friends used to IRC in college. Then everyone started with ICQ. Now everyone is asking me if I'm on AIM. Finally, I gave in today and registered. How does this make my life better? What am I supposed to do now?

I hate being on AIM. But even AOL owns ICQ! Ugh!

do yourself a favor - go get Trillian.

I don't like Trillian very much. It's a really good idea, but it's just not solid coding and has lots of problems.

Okay, since it was integrated with Windows XP, I gave in and registered for a ".NET" accound with MSN. Now I have this MSN Messenger thing . The interface is actually better than AIM (no friggin' ads all the time). Is there a way to do AIM stuff through the MSN Messenger window? Aren't MSN and AOL bitter rivals? I'm actually a fairly computer-literate guy, but this disintegration baffles me .
