the opening was the craziest ceremony I have ever seen.

too bad the 29 steps were faked but it was still amazing:

Wow. Can't believe they faked that. Quite interesting they'd fake fireworks of all things, and the fact that they broadcast it as the real thing is quite odd.

Wait you serious? People thought that was real?

For one it looked obviously CGI, since the camera was moving at 1000 miles an hour, and the fireworks moved way too fast.

Also NBC's announcer clearly stated that it was a generated "cinematic effect" to give the illusion of the steps, the final one being real and arriving at the stadium.

Considering the fantasy speed and angle of the camera and the fact it was clearly announced to be NOT REAL and a cinematic effect, you had to totally fail to pay attention to miss that.

Hah, the wonderful effect of word of mouth news being misinterpreted. Looks like the Epoch Times editor read the story on Telegraph and misinterpreted it. See the original source:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/otherspor...ints-faked.html

"The fireworks were there for real, outside the stadium. But those responsible for filming the extravaganza decided in advance it would be impossible to capture all 29 footprints from the air.

As a result, only the last, visible from the camera stands inside the Bird's Nest was captured on film."

That means the firework of the foot prints was REAL. It wasn't possible to capture it from an aerial view, so it was done in CG. Only the last one that was visible from inside the Bird's Nest was captured.

goddamn tv stations...you can't watch shit if you're outside the US. like every station does this. first it said i couldn't watch since the cable company (from my parents' house) i chose wasn't a partner. then i went back and chose the company i had in chicago. went forward. then i got to the video player, and it said nbc was restricted from showing any videos to people outside of the US.

any other sources? i guess i can google or something.

Fireworks apparently was not the only thing.

It's not so much that it wasn't her singing. It's the reason why.

I don't think we'll ever see this kind of opening cermony in the future. The amount of money spent, time and effort put into it, and people involved were mind-boggling.

Anyway, I was never a big fan of Olympics. But heck, I sat there and watched through the thing was was truly amazed.

The reason being she couldn't sing well enough?

Sounds like a good reason to me.

China could have done the American route and just had her lipsync to a digitally created voice instead ala every single american pop star, but they choose to have her lip sync to the real voice of another girl.

Face it, China is just learning from the masters of this kind of stuff, America. None of these American teenie boppers can sing worth a damn, they are just selected because they looked cute, Britney spears, the Simpson Sisters, Miley Cyrus, etc etc. It is all about looks when it comes to female singers. How many fugly and successful female pop singers can you name? At least the girl that did sang actually got to have her voice her by billions, versus the thousands of ugly girls that sing like goddesses in America that just wither away in school accapella groups.

Looks like China's just trying to follow the leader of lip synching.
What are you talking about? This isn't the same thing as digitally enhancing Brittany Spears' voice. You don't see her or Miley Cyrus or the other teenie boppers trying to pass Tina Turner songs as their own. Totally different situation.

They had one girl sing a song and try to pass that off as the voice of a different girl. How is that the same?
