You guys have got it all wrong. These things are not premonistions of the future. You're not supposed to get to December 31, 2009 and ask, "Where's my egg shaped vid phone?".

They are directional statements about a companies market. The things it sees as important for the future growth of it's business. In short, they are ads designed to get you to buy into NTT today.

And for all those that think these things aren't possible remember, Alexander Graham Bell once said of the telephone, "One day every town will have one".

That is a pretty cool video. As far as the digital divide, some of these poor nations are sometimes better off than we are. We have to replace an existing infrastructure and that can be very costly. The emerging nations get to start from scratch and get an advanced network right off the bat.

I think a more realistic version of this video would include banner ads on everything that can display a pixel or voxel. And we're not talking about some benign coupon for the flower store.

<sigh> oh well... this is supposed to be an OPTIMISTIC version of the future.

So in 7 years we'll reprise Avery Brooks shouting... "Where are my egg shaped vid phones?! I was promised egg shaped vid phones!!"

Hmmm, all that so you can pick out a pair of shoes and nag your mom about the BBQ?

Oh yeah, and practice your Engrish

Call me old fashioned, I just don't need additional layers of cell phone technology in my life.
