One more reason not to go to Arkansas

Arkansas sports reporter fired for wearing Gator cap
Sports reporters often wear two different hats – objective reporter and actual fan. That's fine, as long as the hats are metaphorical and not actual, you know, hats. Renee Gork has now learned that lesson. Gork, a radio personality on Northwest Arkansas' KAKS, has been fired by the station for wearing a Florida Gators hat to a news conference held on Saturday by Arkansas Razorbacks head football coach Bobby Petrino. After answering one of Gork's questions, Petrino said, "And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on." Gork is a University of Florida alum and says she grabbed the hat without thinking that day because it was raining out. That didn't matter to KAKS general manager Dan Storrs, who told the Associated Press, "This radio station is Hog Sports Radio. We are very biased. We support the Razorbacks 100 percent." Gork, who has since received death threats because of the incident, said she wanted to publicly apologize to both Petrino and fans on the radio. So far she hasn't gotten the chance.

I think it's excessive to fire her, but it was definitely unprofessional for her to wear a hat representing an opposing team to the press conference. I have a hard time believing that it wasn't intentional, too... although I'm sure she'd never admit it.
Though it's silly, i don't see anything wrong with the firing. People from the south are rabid football fans and though it may not have been on purpose, it is an insult to the razorbacks.
Freedom of Expression and taste is subjective. If they really cared, they never should have hired her because of her school, but the fact is, Arkansas needs to import smart people from somewhere. Queue the lawsuit in 3... 2... 1...
