Default One person sand rails :)

So I was searching and found a company that sells the design plans for one-seater sand cars and I want to build one so I bought the plans. My questions is has anybody else here built anything like this?

http://www.desertkarts.com/panthersand.ivnu

The plans are for the most part very detailed there are a few things I might change for my height and little things. My questions is does anybody know where to buy motorcycle engines? I'm thinking of a GSX-R 600 or 1100 lol.

I'm planning on starting the project over the winter so, if you know of any resources that you believe might be helpful pm me. Once I start i'll try to start-up a build thread.

A thing to keep in mind with a bike engine is that reverse is a little more tricky. Sounds like it should be a blast of a build. Do you have a welder and pipe bender?

My ex girlfriends dad built 3 of them... His newest one is the one seater with the hayabusa 1300 motor in it.... so much fun...
You need alot of patients in building it.. I took him about a year to finish and hes a welder as a trade.. But its flawless

It sounds like it would be pretty mean. Do you know where he got his powerplant from? And I'm pretty well proficient with mig and tig welding, I went to a tech school and learned and now I work at an inspection company for refineries and the alaska pipelines. So I have some good resources for checking my work lol.

Oh and if you are bored and want to, post up a pic of his set-up. And to answer the first reply I have a hobart 210 mig welder and I'm looking around at some different tubing benders without breaking the bank. I have all my other tools too but i'l pick up a grinder and other stuff as I move along. Thanks for the replies.

You don't need to buy a naked motor, you could just use a donor cycle. A used bike would be easier to take the transplant from.

I was kind of thinking of that too and just buying a salvage title bike or something. It all comes back down to the mighty dollar and I going to do my best to keep this project from getting rediculously expensive, I know it will take some significant coin but my goal is to build it less expensive than what it would for a built one of the same nature.

Anybody have ideas of where to get motorcycle engines or a bike with a good engine?
