I dated some chicks from Myspace, but im not sure that counts. They turned out to be psychos anyway, so I highly suggest you don't meet girls that way.

Ive never had trouble meeting girls, so I really don't have the need to online date. The myspace stuff was mainly them hitting me up first.

Alot of people I come in contact with that online date use e-harmony or match.com

I guess you could say i met my current girlfriend on myspace. We actually went to the same high school but she is 2 years younger than me and i never knew her then. Her sister was my age and her locker was next to mine. I guess my girlfriend remembered me since she sometimes used her sisters locker, and decided to talk to me on myspace. This was 2 years after i had graduated. We hit it off talking online since i was at college 400 miles away and started hanging out over the summer. Things have been great since.

I met my girl on OkCupid.com. I will state that my match with her was an exception that proves a rule. . .

I checked her ad out, and basically it said something to the effect of "If you've read anything by Murakami, you score 1,000 points. If you can play (French) Horn, you score 1,000,000." Yes, I'm a Horn player; and we cover each other's gigs if we can't make it. We're doing a musical together at the end of the month. We're dorks, and loving every second of it.

If you're looking for VERY PARTICULAR interests, online dating can rock. Otherwise, most of the women I've met on there ranged from "nice, but no chemistry" to "batshit crazy and not hot enough for me to deal with it."

Remember gents,

- They often can see how much you make, or worse, state how much they expect their date to make.

- They can see what you do for a living, and discriminate if they don't like it or you don't mention it.

- Some of the matching services can match you based on race/ethnicity, and I know for a few guys, that's either not what you're looking for, or worse (as what happened to my friend), your behavior and upbringing deviate from a stereotype, but EL MACHINE has got you pegged as <insert your ethnicity here>, and keep matching you up with women "who just don't get you" or accuse you of "not keeping it real."

- Your photos make you. Unfortunately, you're either throwing up the shocker, or you look like a complete weenie because they're "staged" yearbook photos.

That said, good luck.

When my friend was on there, no. You complete the asessment for free but to initially communicate, that's when you have to pay up.

I met my +1 on Match. We will be celebrating three years together next month. He was definitely worth waiting for! I dated guys on and off through Match for several years before I settled down. Had a great time. You do need pics, though. If you don't post some, your chances of getting responses go way down. My advice is don't waste too much time on emailing, phone calls, etc. I found that in many cases I connected via email and/or phone but in person there was no chemistry. Once you get some good vibes, arrange a meeting in a public place. Keep it fun and enjoy!!
