Opinions on digicams
I am looking to go purchase a digicam today. I'd prefer something somewhat compact. I also only intend to take pictures. I do not need to make videos, or any extraneous features.
I do not know much about cameras except that everyone tells me to get something with at least a 3x optical zoom and that about 3megapixels should be more than enough for my needs.
In addition, from what I have gathered, most of the cameras come with skimpy memory cards. So does anyone have opinions or suggestions, perhaps based on your own experience or ownership. I do not want to spend more than 200, maybe 250 at max. Thanks in advance.

Canon A75. I have used the older version before, and it works great. Takes nice pics, too. You can have it for $200 or less.
Nikon Coolpix 3200 is another nice camera for same price.
And yes, they typically come with skimpy memory cards. Just purchase a 256 or higher, and you'll be all set.

The single most important feature of a digicam is comfort of use. If it doesn't feel right in your hands, you're not going to use it and you'll be wasting your money.
It's a good idea to have a standard viewfinder as well as the LCD on the back if you're using it outside. Sunlight overpowers the LCD and you can't really see what you're composing.
Next think how you're going to connect it to your computer and if the computer is going to be compatible. An older computer with USB 1 ports will not read your camera without adaptation.
Optical zoom is better than diigtal zoom in that it's a physical adjustment of the lens to enlarge the picture. Digital zoom just makes each pixel larger reducing clarity.
If you're planning on serious enlargements, 3 megapixels is inadequate but more than sufficient if you plan snapshots and web posting.

It does come with a puny memory card, 32 MB IIRC. I went ahead and got a 512 MB card.
