Default Outlook 2003 Help....Anyone? :)

Ok, I consider myself fairly computer/tech savvy but I cannot figure this one out! I thought fellow S2Kers would be able to help me out! My Outlook 2003 has decided to become junk. I don't know what changed from yesterday to today, but I cannot send or reply to emails.

It's not a connection problem or anything, I can go in to each account and test the account, but I just can't send an actual message. The buttons don't work. I have tried a system restore to last week, didn't help. I reinstalled Office 2003, didn't work. I have deleted all temp files/cookies/history. Nothing works! Any ideas?

Below is a picture of my Email inbox, the buttons that you are supposed to be able to use are not clickable (the highlighted ones), they are locked it seems.

Might need this moved to the Computer forum.

First I would try starting Outlook in Safe mode (go to your run menu and type outlook /safe) and see if that allows the buttons to work again.

If so, then close Outlook and try renaming your outlook DAT files to something else (extendOLD.dat for instance):
extend.dat
frmcache.dat
outcmd.dat
views.dat (if it exists)

Then try restarting outlook.

(I love google)

Well this is odd, I can't start Outlook in safe mode:

"Cannot start Office Outlook. The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."

So I tried outlook / safe and outlook \ safe.

Uggh, this is frustrating!

How often do you delete emails? My guess is your pst file is toooooo large. You don't need to go into safe mode, google where your pst file is normally (it's in a "hidden" folder) and then rename it. Then start Outlook again. If it starts normally, you have your answer.

Then just switch back and start a major cleanup.

Good luck. This happened to the boss's wife as work and this is pretty much what our IT guy had to do.
