Default Outlook Express 6 problem

any help is appreciated. about a week ago my outlook express started taking much longer to load up when i start it. before once i clicked on it, it would be fully started within a second. now when i click on it first it gives me the blue outlook express intro screen for about 30 seconds, then the program starts and you can see the screen, but it takes another 30 seconds to refresh everything that should be shown, after that it works normally, no lag or anything. what could be causing this? i have tried emptying all my mailboxes, inboxes outboxes, etc. i have tried compacting all my boxes. i have tried running defrag to see if that was the problem and still nothing worked. jsut a little info, i am running windows xp, on a pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. does anyone know why this is happening? it jsut started out of nowhere, one minute its fine, next it is doing this.

thanks in advance

It's because Outlook was created by the devil himself and is an inherently evil program.

Sorry to be of no help, but I couldn't resist!

ive tried it on 3 seperate connections cable, dial-up, and wireless. i dont think that it has anything to do with the connection because the lag is actually when the program is loading, before it even begins to connect to my accounts. by the time that it actually connects and starts checking, everythign is fine.

Have you installed any new programs in the past couple of days? Also, how much memory(ram) do you have? If you have low system resources, which would be caused by having not enough memory, or if you have recently installed a new program that is using a considerable amount of your system resources, this could cause this problem too.

It may be related to downloading one of the many recent security patches, but I couldn't say which one.

I have removed Windows XP patch Q811493 because it is known to slow things down.
