DJ : evidently not... :rolleyes

anyone considered trying to mount the 8500 inside the map light. looks like it would have adequate exposure and might still possible use LED. will send info and pics if this works.

ordered mine today...

thanks Dr. Kwongster for the great tip!

and mentioning s2ki.com did seem to matter, as the price depended on 'where did you hear about us?'

makes you wonder if the 'other' guys are getting a better deal...

the V1 is sweet, but not $161.50 sweeter for me.

Just ordered one for my Vibe. Now I have an 8500 for my Vibe and a V1 for my Vette. Sounds about right.

ran remote wire through center console and mounted remote right under the a/c console. others have bought an cigarette lighter extension from radio shack and plug in around the radio.

ohh ya 8500 is great!!

well, i tried as hard as i could w/ all my charm - but the dude at the counter just wouldn't give it to me for his cost... ah well... maybe i'm not quite the handsome man i thought...

but seriously, while i have a lot of contacts in retail around here - i don't have one at BB or any other store that retails the 8500... so, this is the best deal i was able to find...

regardless -- as i understand it, the 8500 uses a standard phone cord connector for its power. i'm planning on buying a black non-coiled phone extension cord, cutting off one end, hardwiring it, and running my wire from under the drivers side console, up and under the trim/rubber seals to where i'm planning to mount it by the rearview mirror. unless of course, there's something i'm not aware of waiting for me... i currently don't anticipate needing the smart cord options... i'm hoping that they aren't needed for the hardwire to function properly.

I just wired the passport straight into the map lights.. Extremely easy.. No problems with over 6 months of ownership..

I just placed my order for the 8500 with these guys. I expect it to arrive around the middle of next week. I'll update this after I receive the unit. These guys were great to deal with over the phone. Be sure to mention s2ki because the first thing they asked me was what the price was and what club I was with.

Thanks to PJK3 for helping me find this thread with the info for this company. I tried several times to search for this thread without any success. I plan to hard wire it too with just a phone cord and in-line 10A fuse. I'll let everyone know how the install goes along with my impressions of the 8500.
