There is pretty much NO excuse in Southern California either. I usually pull into the first space I see open. If my wife complains, I tell her, "It's southern California, it's 72 degrees and sunny." I'd rather walk.

I remember one day back when I lived in Austin, parking was really bad at our job. Some guy with an old, crappy corvette took up two spots. I went out at lunch and someone had parked right up against one side of his car. No way that someone could get in that door. There was less than six inches between the cars. The funny thing is, the second car wasn't across the line on the other side of the spot. There also looked to be about two different notes underneath the wipers. I'm sure they were all complimenting his parking technique. I don't remember seeing that car up there again.
As for the people who park way out and take up two spots, why even do that? I just park way out and take up one spot. If you're really parking out that far then you shouldn't have to worry about someone parking next to you unless the lot fills up. Parking in two spots anywhere is just going to draw negative attention to your car. My S2000 is over five years old now and I have avoided door dings. Some of it is luck, but mostly it's just by being smart where you park.

Two spots is okay if you park straight and are at the back of the lot, and the lot isn't close to crowded. Taking two spots close to the entrance or in a crowded lot will get you trouble. I'f I'm in my beater, I'll park in that half spot, about an inch from the driver's side door so they can't get into their car.

Yeah annoys the fawk outta me, but what can I do? I never park in the front where they normally do this anyways.

It seems okay in the boonies of an empty lot. Burns me in most crowded lots. I keep thinking, "if I'm this close to vandalism doesn't that mean it is self-defeating behavior?" I mean, there are plenty of folks without my self control. Don't these drivers get 'street justice' eventually?
one day i went to the local mall to do some last minute christmas shopping (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...&#entry11801110). needless to say the parking lot was packed. i finally found a spot in the back of the lot somewhere and began the trek toward the stores. in the 2nd and 3rd spots from the very front is a 3 or 4 year old mitsubishi or suzuki sedan sedan of some ilk (nothing even remotely close to being expensive) parked diagonally. i can't remember if i had a piece of paper with me, or if i walked back to my car to get it, but i left him a note on the windshield: "can't believe you took up 2 spaces with this piece of SH!T!" i don't dwell on it, and i didn't stay mad about it, but i felt better knowing that he saw where i was coming from.
it chaps me when people take up two spots with a vehicle that will fit in one. yeah i hate door dings as much as if not more than anyone else, but sh!t happens. just because you paid too much for a mercedes or caddy doesn't give you the right to take up two spaces with it.

It's even worse when you're looking for street parking and some a-hole parks in the middle of what would be space enough for two cars. That's when you really feel like doing something bad to that car. In a mall parking lot...I'll just circle around for another spot.
oddly enough..... today at the gym there was a silver 1988ish corvette backed diagonally across two spots..... he was parked pretty far out so he had nothing to worry about (plus the car is worth $10k max) but I guess to draw some attention he went diagonal.....woot.
