Default PeTA

Okay...so I'll admit that I've heard plenty about PeTA and how edgy they've been in their protest tactics...but you have to admit that they pretty much _have_ to be that way considering how society is now.

Admit it...it has to have SHOCK VALUE to get our attention...it's as if we are desensitized.

So...what got it in my head tonight?

HBO's documentary, "I AM AN ANIMAL."
http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/iamananimal/

Clearly...I support protection of animals from abuse...

Not so much on *NOT* eating animals. Although I can respect where they are coming from.

What *DOES* bother me is the use of fur from animals. To see these animals "harvested" for their skin...and many skinned alive is just plain wrong.

Watching the documentary earlier tonight and then spending some time on their site, it enrages me to see people treat animals in such a manner.

Worst is how we treat _other_ people!

Do you realize that we don't even recognize _other_ people in an elevator? Or in a hallway? People are so concerned about themselves that they don't show _any_ consideration for others. It's the "ALL ABOUT ME" attitude. More and more, people just DON'T care... Reminds me of where that poor Dunkin' Donuts worker was stabbed to death while customers looked on?? WTF??

Anyway...my rant.

You are too worked up. Where I work I always smile at people on the elevator, hold the door for people and ask them what floor so I can push their button. I talk to people I know and even people who look like they are talkable to.

Humans are probably nicer to each other than human nature itself would dictate. Like s2000raj, I have positive interactions with other people on a daily basis.

If you knew what you were really indirectly responsible for causing or letting proceed, the last thing you'd be concerned about is animals.

PETA usually has good intentions but like you said it's not easy to get thigns done and sometimes it takes some sparks to get the fire going.

Humans have been harvasting animals for their skin since the dawn of man kind. Cavemen, Indians, everybody. Believe it or not, animals would kill us too if they were hungry and we couldn't defend ourselves. Unfortunately for them, we have guns and land cruisers and they still have the same weapons as when we had clubs and pointy rocks.

It's still nonetheless disturbing to consider animals being skinned alive etc., and I promote decency towards animals as much as I can. The actions man commits against man are far, far more atrocious than anything we've ever dreamed of committing against animals.

It's just you airgate. You don't even know who is sitting at the next table in a restaurant j/k

I personally think PETA over does it, and blows things way out of proportion. I have the view of someone raised on a farm and having many pets. I have raised animals to be used for food and I have raised animals to be used released into the wild.

I am a carnivore for sure. I don't really like to think of the animal that lost it's life for my steak, but that is the reality of the animal kingdom. Our minds make us the top of the food chain. Does anyone think an alligator thinks twice when it kills another animal? I doubt it. To me that makes us more humane.

I do not think that animals should be used for decoration. I think you should only hunt if you plan on eating the meat, not for a trophy. I don't like the idea of fur coats unless the rest of the animal is used for a better reason. It is just such a polarizing topic. Thanks for stirring the pot

I agree that people influence others around them usually in a day to day basis of interaction, but I think what the OP is getting at is that as humans, we are the only ones to consistantly F each other over on a widescale basis for greed and pleasure. Animals only kill for necessity or defense. True we have harvested animals since day one for clothing and food, but now its more about profit and bling bling when it comes to animal fur. And as for Peta, ya, wackos!

Animals often kill just to kill. You can defend it by saying it's practice to maintain a survival skill, but that's about as far as you can go.

People have always been killing animals for profit and 'bling bling', it's just in a different fashion than it is now. People have been trading animal furs for coin money since history has been recorded. We are just a lot more organized and more efficient at it now. I understand your point though.

I saw that documentary last night.

PeTA is what happens when your mom doesn't love you and your only friend growing up is a dog.
