I'm sorry but pharmacy is one of the biggest BS jobs when it comes to medicine. If you honestly like counting pills all day at your local CVS then by all means go for it. But from what my pharmacist friends say, its not worth it. Sure you have a nice starting salary ~80k but it won't go much past 90-100k max so there isn't much room for improvement.
Real pharmacy requires you to get your PhD. as well (4 more years of school) . Then you'll actually be able to work for pharmaceutical companies performing research, though with the recent layoff's good luck with that
Not that I'm trying to be harsh or anything; I'm just relaying what I've been told by many pharmacists / Doctors. Plus, probably within my lifetime, pharmacists will probably be replaced with computer counting machines.

The clinical pharmacists I work with are invaluable. They don't count pills. They are worth every penny of the >$100k that they earn.

Retail sucks. Dealing with a bunch of people pissed about insurence prices thinking its the pharmacys fault. (just like gas stations and gas prices).
Clinical hospital pharmacists arent even around pills much.
Floaters make really good money as well. (pharmacist that works at different stores)
all pharmacists now are pharm D I believe. (the ones graduating now).
The ones i work with are making around 100k a year. I work at a VA hospital. They pay is a few thousand less then retail or outside hospital, but due to it being a gov job, the benifits are great. plus you cant beat a 9-5 mon-fri with all paid holidays.
6 figures for working in the a/c or heating without physical labor.. definately worth it. it helps even more when you have good techs working for you as well as other pharmacists.
The funny thing is, you would be extremely suprised how many mistakes pharmacy techs and pharmacists catch that doctors make when writing perscriptions. interactions, high dose, etc.
Wow...I think there has been maybe 2 constructive comments in this entire post. I don't know a damn thing about pharmacy, though I'm bored at work and reading random threads. But seriously, he's wanting opinions on the schools, not what a pharmacist does...I'm pretty sure he knows that alot better than most of you.

Although I did post the same question on those student-doctor network forums. Reaching out to as many people as I can for opinions and info.
