Exclamation Planning for the 2009 24hrs of Lemons... 1st time!

So..

I'm planning on participating in this years fall 24hrs of Lemons up at Carolina Motorsports Park in SC.. This would be my first 24hrs of Lemons event, so I would love to hear suggestions for car choices, mods, tips, tricks, hints... whatever!! Words of the wise would very much appreciated guys!!!
Shoot, if anyone would be interested in joining with me in a team effort for this event, and you're local... Let me know! I'm completely game!

Here are the cars that I'm currently looking into to run..

-Dodge Neon
-Mazda Miata
-BMW E30
-VW Gulf, GTI, Jetta, GLI, or Rabbit
-Honda Civic Del Sol, EF Hatch, etc.
-Nissan Sentra
-Geo Metro

I already have a ton of safety equipment already, so that wouldn't be a problem..

Thanks again for the help guys!!

Best,
Tylor

^Awesome.. haha, if you don't mind me asking.. how many folks were on your team, and how many ended up driving? What was the end cost per person, or lets just say, how much did you end up forking out of your pocket after everything was all said and done?

Find WestSideBilly, his team ran it at Altamont last year.

As far as your cars:
-Dodge Neon
-Mazda Miata
-BMW E30
-VW Gulf, GTI, Jetta, GLI, or Rabbit
-Honda Civic Del Sol, EF Hatch, etc.
-Nissan Sentra
-Geo Metro
The Dodge had better be completely salvaged.
Miata? Don't bother - instant lap penalties (even salvaged)
BMW E30 - be wary on this one too; I'd go older than E30.
VW's are money, but don't get a GTI, and don't get anything that isn't completely salvaged.
Del Sols and EF hatchs are almost as "bad" as Miatas, IMHO
Sentra? Maybe.
Geo Metro - SHIT YES

WestSideBilly's team ran as "2Fast 2Festiva. . . " so,

^hahaha.. Awesomer man.. Thanks much for the input! So, if you wouldn't mind, but could you elaborate on your comments?? Like, not super detailed or anything intense, but when you talk about instant lap penalties, and cars being completely salvaged when I buy one.. what do you mean?

Thanks man!!

ps, yea, I'm thinking about a Geo Metro.. haha I mean, I want something reliable for 24hours or better.. I know they're 3cylinders, I mean, can you really dish it out on them?? They're fuel injected.. right???

Thanks a bunch!

When you go to the referee at the start of the race, they'll look at your car, and start handicapping it.

On top of that, depending on the crowd, if it runs TOO well, you'll get "The People's Curse" award. . . aka, demolition.

Anything that's inherently sporty gets "stink-eye."

On the Geo, see if you can do an engine swap. I'm hearing rumors that Mazda 323 motors can get dropped near anywhere.

There were 6 team members. 4 drivers. It was sponsored by our shop so WE didn't pay anything out of pocket, but the company spent roughly $400-$500 and we fabbed up our rollcage from scrap metal(it actually turned out quite decent).

BUT DAMN WAS THAT THING STRIPPED. We even used dry ice to remove the sound deadening material

dry ice? you just gave me an idea for my hatch, thanks becuase that shit doesn't come off

anyway, if i were to run the 24 hours of lemons i'd buy a first gen crx, gut it/strip it
drop a d16z6 in it ,then paint it to make it look a rat rod, and win
depending on the price of the car you can do this for well under $1500
or if you can find one an early 90's sentra se-r would be perfect, there quick right out the box
whats the cost limit anyway?
