Default Playstation 2 "disk read error"

Has anybody had this problem or found a way to fix it!! It is driving me nuts! I am about ready to just throw the damn thing away! If I hit the reset button about 80 times (seriously) it usually finally works. I dont get it!! There is some dude on ebay saying he can tell you how to fix it for $5 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=11328 ). Anybody have any ideas??

Ours did the same thing, and Sony fixed for free under warranty, I think it has a 3 year warranty originally. Call 1-800-345-7669, a tech will walk you through some diagnostic steps and if still does not work they'll fix it and send it back in about 2 weeks.

No need to dig out a receipt, they get model numbers from you off the unit.

Gavin...give me a call. Mine's done it in the past and I got it working again. I'm pretty sure they only have 90 day warranties.

Mine did it before. It could be that the laser optic part of the PS2 is rubbing against the CD itself because it's messed up. Try cleaning the CD (I'm sure you've tried), or the optic part itself. This would involve you opening the PS2 though, voiding the warranty. I gave in and ended up buying a new PS2. The strange thing is, the old PS2 that gave disc read errors started working fine after I cleaned it out. The only thing that doens't work is the network adapter, or games that use the network adapter. Wierd. Anyway, now I have 2 PS2's, one for NA play, one for non-NA play.

Good luck.

Yeah...I had to open mine up once to get it working. My network adapter still works just fine. I have since found a great lens cleaner on a CD that works. It saved a friends PS2 that other lens cleaners didn't fix too. You can always jet over to my place and we can run it.

I have to open mine up once a month to clean the lens just to read DVD-games.

Any CD-based game does not work at all on my PS2.

Mine had this problem for a long time and I had taken it apart and cleaned it numerous times with varying degrees of success. I finally found this website and went through this voltage adjustment and it works great now.
