I'm with No Really. Its all about the games. What I read there has me salivating but I'm not pre-ordering. Look at it this way, XBox 360 hardware is a big jump up from the original XBox but the games are not giving me anything more. E.g. -- I enjoyed PGR 1 & 2 as much or more than PGR 3.

I originally bought my PS2 because of the Gran Turismo series. Maybe the PS3 with have some similar killer titles. If not it'll be a blood-bath for Sony.
like i said before you need to wait until the games are in there second and third generation...a lot of titles were thrown together to be first to market for the 360...now that the second generation of games are about to come out they will be much much better

No and no. While having some technological superiorities to the 360, it is not going to "blow away" anything. If you look at screenshots of either console they are both tremendous. I heard more than one programmer at E3 said that the 360 will be easier to program for and milk more out of than it will be for the processors in the PS3.

It will come down to which titles you prefer. Sony has lots of exclusive titles. Microsoft has lots of exclusive titles. If you are more into the role playing games, Sly Cooper, Jak, Gand Turismo, and so forth, the the PS3 is clearly for you. Microsoft will have Halo 3, Gears of War, Oblivian, Forza and blah blah. Find the one that has the game titles you like and go with that one. One being head and shoulders above the other from a technology standpoint is not going to happen. Each has certain advantages over the other, and both are expandable. (the 360 will have HD DVD add ons as well as web cams, and music downloads)

Grand Theft Auto will debut on both consoles at the same time, and since the 360 noiw has a six million console headstart, a few publishers that were exclusively sony may start looking at both machines.

The PS3 will be a very nice, very expensive machine. The 360 is also an excellent machine with fantastic online services. The nintendo will be the budget machine with less capability, but easier to pick up and play party games and continue to cater to the younger audience.

It is still the titles themselves and not the hardware because both machines will be able to deliver just about anything the programmers can dream up and the graphics on each are just about at the point of photo-realism.

if the ps3 is as much a pain in the ass as the ps2 is then it will take a while before (non sony) ps3 games compete with xbox 360

What it comes down to are the console-exclusive games. Nowadays, most games are mode for all platforms so there is little need to buy both an Xbox 360 and a PS3. What it will come down to are games that are only released for one platform.

Honestly, I have not seen a game for either console yet that has made me want to rush out and buy it. Eventually there will be one, but that is not now and I intend to be the lucky recipient of some price drops by the time the "killer app" comes out.

My $.02

Hey if you can afford both and justify needing them...more power to you!

I made it through this console generation with a Gamecube and PS2. Mainly because I just HAD to have Metroid Prime and Final Fantasy 10. Never saw the "killer app" for the Xbox that I couldn't live without.

I'll go on record and say that I will buy both if there ever is an exclusive game for each console that I absolutely have to have, but I just haven't seen it yet for either system.

Remind me if I'm wrong.. but isn't the PS3 going to be able to play blu ray dvds?

If so, wouldn't the $600 price justify buying it considering the new blu ray dvd players are going for $1000? (I guess that would only justify it if you were looking to buy a blu ray dvd player, but y'know what i'm saying)
