I heard PS2 still outsold Xbox360 for this 2006 year.

Remind me if I'm wrong.. but isn't the PS3 going to be able to play blu ray dvds?

If so, wouldn't the $600 price justify buying it considering the new blu ray dvd players are going for $1000? (I guess that would only justify it if you were looking to buy a blu ray dvd player, but y'know what i'm saying)
Most of that $1000 is early adopter premium and the severe shortage of blu-ray players. The BRD player in the PS3 is estimated to cost Sony $150 to make, so figure the cost of making a stand alone player is probably 200-250 right now. On top of that you've got the PS2 drive failure issues clouding the background. How long can you expect your PS3 to last if you're using it to play movies? 18 months? 2 years? There won't even be games out that actually fully utilize the PS3s hardware for atleast 3 years.

My only interest in the PS3 is if I could get it to function as something more than just a console. There are people who have Linux running on the PS3 already so it's definitely possible. And if you think of the PS3 as a cheap linux box AND an overpriced console it starts looking pretty attractive.
