Please help...Need info on Japanese Turtles (the little itty bitty ones!!!) PLEASE
I have a friend who LOVES turtles and I would like to buy her a turtle (b-day gift). Once, she mentioned that there were Japanese turtles that grew to a maximum of a few inches (i think under 3?), but they're not sold in the states. Apparently, she knew someone who had two a long time ago and they told her that they went to Mexico and bought them. unfortunately, i live on the east coast, therefore i don't have the luxury of driving across the border, buying them and coming back. heck, i wouldn't know where to get them anyways!
anyone heard of these or know where to get them? can anyone get me info on how to purchase them? maybe someone who can get them for me? i'd be willing to pay for them, at a reasonable cost (including shipment and a nice tip for the hassle). Any Japanese members here that can do this? maybe tokyo james?
thanks!!!

They sell those tiny little turtles in Flushing and Chinatown all the time. In fact I just saw some yesterday. I'm pretty sure they are suppose to be illegal but no one really gives a crap. I don't think shipping them would be an option though. Probably be dead by the time I sent them to you.
yeah, i heard they are illegal....but oh well. they're in flushing and chinatown? really? wow, that's cool! i assume chinatown in nyc (sorry, i don't know ny that well)? do you know how much they charge (a guess would suffice)? thanks man!!!
The one's I've seen in Chinatown are called "Red Eared Sliders". I don't know what Nationality they are
, but I would call these Chinese before I called them Japanese.
I actually own two of them now! One of them I got about a year ago. It was about 1 inch when I got him, but is now about 4 inches long. I don't think they get too much bigger, but I also think it depends on what size tank you keep them in. I believe the legal size in the US is 4 inches or more. I also hear they live for 10+ years!

They are $5 in Flushing. I saw them this morning. They look like the ones in DJ Qube's pictures but the have red markings. I think for a couple of extra bucks they even sell you a little plastic tank with rocks, fake plants, and water to take home with you.
NHobbes, yes chinatown in NYC. If you come to Fall Colors, I'll show you where. Should still be around in 2 weeks.
