22 means things are in his favor. I don't want to give you false hope, but I've seen some pretty badly hurt young people make it out of the hospital. It won't be any time soon. I hope Meg will be out within a week. Keep her strong. Make sure she gets up and around as much as possible when the doctors clear her to be up and to use the incentive spirometer as much as possible. The incentive spirometer and ambulation or up in chair will help her GTFO the hospital much more quickly. Keep those lungs healthy and avoid clots and thrombii. I've seen ALOT of trauma and spend many months on surgical/anesthesia trauma in my training.

I'm getting choked up just thinking about the suffering you and yours are going through.

Hey beanseff, very sad to hear all this. I hope everybody makes a quick, full recovery.

Regarding the kiddo... I must admit that I have no children, basically zero experience with children in situations like this, and it's been a long time since I was three years old. But with that disclaimer, I can't imagine what harm would be done by simply telling him the truth - especially compared to seeing your reactions without explanation. Is seeing injury really that traumatic to somebody that young?

Yeah, it's pretty traumatic to a kid to see his pillar of strength broken down. Dad crying is one thing, seeing mom with cuts, swollen etc is another. I experienced it as a kid. My mother was in an accident. I was fine until I went to see her. That's when I broke down. I still remember it 30 years later.

If you don't mind me asking - how old were you? I don't know that I recall anything specific from when I was three years old. Although perhaps I didn't have anything particularly traumatic to stick in my mind.
