Seeing something like this just literally makes my blood boil.
boil your blood but no big matter after its all done.

-a cop actually drove against rush hour traffic to catch a bad guy in town a while back. i think he is still employed but assigned a desk job
-during an unmarked surveillance, in a residential neighborhood a cop took off w/o lights on an unrelated matter and lost control of his vehicle and did some peep mowing his lawn.

cops need to know limits especially in a Ford Crown Victoria PI

couldn't the police have handled this situation better?

i mean taking the time of day and street activity into consideration, wouldn't it have been prudent to just call off the ground pursuit and just follow him in the air?...eventually he would've had to stop.

one day police will learn, then again, maybe they won't.

oh yeah, that kid's parents should sue...

What sue who? The psyco in the car or the cops? Thats complete BULLCRAP! Sue this, sue for that. How about people just own up to "SHIT happens" and stop trying to make a profit off it. Seriously.

This event was NOT the cops fault in any way shape or form. If you think it is your full of shit and naive. The cop cars were OBVIOUSLY very far behind him, they had him covered with a helecoptor.

Would you have rather that guy run...Get away and maybe break into your house and kill your family? Or run, get away and end up crashing anyway killing whoever?

I have no remorse for criminals in any way shape or form.

Do you see the irony in what you're saying?

"The cops were far behind, but in reality right on top of him."

The guy might have not intentionally hit someone else if he felt that he was going to get away. He was probably running out of gas or something, knew he'd be caught, and decided to go out rather spectacularly.

I don't think anyone should sue the cops but I do think, past a point, the cops just need to let people go. They're putting more lives in danger by attempting to apprehend than they are if they let the person go...

Criminals would exploit the fact that they can get away with what ever they want just by jumping in a car and driving away. Can you imagine the spike in violent crimes that would erupt if the police across the nation were not allowed to pursue?

In our department, we can pursue if we believe that the escape of the criminal can lead to the serious injury or death of another person. Even then, if the pursuit becomes to dangerous, we must cut it off. We also have to get the permission of the supervisor on shift.

Unfortunately, not every department or officer for that matter, subscribes to this policy.

I dont think anyone here can really second guess the police in this case until we have seen the whole 34 min. of the pursuit. We just simply dont have all of the facts.

I absolutely agree. I'm not going to stop a chase at 70 mph but at 100 mph, I think it'd be prudent to back off and let them go. A line has to be drawn somewhere. I'd suggest close pursuit to a point, then monitoring at a distance (from a chopper, for instance) until a safer spot can be found to stop them (or track them down later).

I'm referring to general practice, not this specific incident since I have no clue (as you pointed out) about what happened prior to that part of the footage.
