Default Politics -

The politics policy has been lax this past week due to the circumstances of Tuesday's Tragedy.

I told the moderators to watch the OT forum closely but to not over moderate due to the respect of all. I felt we should allow people to vent their frustration and concerns.

There is a growing number of threads which are getting to deep, and are ultimately hurting others. The personal attacks are increasing.

We gave an inch and folks are taking a mile. I wanted people to feel comfortable in expressing their pain and suffering. We are a community that many feel comfortable in expressing their thoughts and opinions. Many are looking for the companionship our community provides. I don't want our community divided.

Effective immediately no politics will be allowed. We will not allow personal attacks on each other or each of our countries. We are all friends, we have a great online community, and the world as a whole has been affected. Please read the community guidelines in the library to refresh how our members are to act.

Keeping us all abreast of news and happenings is welcome, but you will not engage in the political debate of how to handle the situation, who is to blame, and what should be done.

Thanks.....

A great man once said "The pen is mightier than the sword." In any case, whether you agree with it or not a decision has been made and you should respect it.

Words do hurt. There are alot of scared innocent people out there (of all races).

My daughter (who is not from the mid-east) bought home 3 fellow students because her dorm in NYC is only 1/4 mile from the WTC. I knew that alot of kids came from out of state so I told her to bring home kids who needed to be somewhere like home.

She came home with 3 fellow students, 2 were from Calif and one from Tx. They are all very nice kids. As it turns out one is of Indian decent, one Morrocan and one Mexican. All 3 were born here and are Americans. I have spoken with their parents and they are all very appreciative.

The point of this is that today, my daughter took them to her old High School to talk to the kids there. After that they went to a Pizzaria Uno to eat. A waiter there seeing that there were three people there (our guests) who looked different than him, started to loudly talk about killing all of 'them' and other threatening things. The kids who have already seen things that nobody should see and are already emotionally shaken were scared to death. My daughter who used to work there and knows the owner and the waiter spoke to the owner and asked that he speak to the waiter (she was afraid to approach him herself).

The waiter proceeded to yell that this is a free country and "I can say whatever I want" then quit.

My daughter and her guests are now scared because he knows where we live and thinks that he may try to harm them.

Words do hurt.

Words may be capable of hurting, but banning all speech about a particular topic isn't the way to stop it - it's just immature, irrational overreaction. I just posted a thread supporting my President (here in "Off-Topic" of course) - nothing inflammatory, no upset replies, no hateful speech, nothing negative at all. Simply something positive that I felt the readers of "Off-Topic" might be interested in reading to lift their spirits. This thread was removed wihtout word, warning, or explanation in less time than it took me to catch up on my E-mail.

I'm quite sure that I don't want to be a part of any 'community' that supports mindless, blanket censorship. I'm an American, and proud of it, in part because I don't have to put up with needless silencing of my fellow citizen's voices.

Yes, of course. Let's ventilate about this tragedy, but let's be really careful about criticising those who perpertrated this atrocity because that might offend someone.
