I love the price-wars. I'm about to buy a TV just for video games and the prices are starting to get reasonable. A Westinghouse LVM-42w2 can be had for under $2K now! I may still go rear-projection and the LCOS-technology JVC HD-56G886 56" is near $1.7K.

Good stuff! But 1080p is future-tech. Too early for me.

That depends on what brand you buy. hehe.

My parents have a Sony 36" trinitron tube with built in cabinet that weighs like 200 lbs.

I think its going on like 12 years now, picture is still as good as it was when they first got it.

My 55 inch Mitsu rear projection came with a warning about video games and burn in but I would say don't sweat it. I have run games on it for over six hours at a time with no problems. The RP is basically my video game tv. It only does 1080i but 360 games still look fantastic.

1080p is a waste right now. You'll pay for something that doesn't have enough media available. Only Blue-ray offers 1080p right now. I'd rather take the ~$500-800 savings by buying a 720p or 1080i set enjoying it fully. Then after 1080p matures, maybe consider a 1080p set (s/b in 5-7yrs).

Note: OTA broadcasts cannot do 1080p. There simply isn't enough bandwith, same goes for cable and dish. Only possibility might be fiber.

so you guys are saying i should not even consider a 1080p set (looking at the latest Sony SXRD A2000 model now...) because only Blue Ray offers that resolution natively? i recall last year's 1080p sets can't even accept 1080p input for some reason or another...

720p is really reasonable now but i prefer the new kind of bulb that samsung is coming out with (LED) which is supposed to last a lot longer and with a much shorter warm-up time...but that only comes in 1080p, and PS3 is supposed to support 1080p natively, right?

any suggestions? i'm looking for 60" ~ 70" TV cuz my living/family room is...kinda big...

I agree, I wouldn't pay much extra for 1080p but some models are starting to stuff it in with little adder, like that LVM-42w2 I mentioned.

Vader, yeah, I've had zero burn-in on my main 65" Mitsu Diamond series. That has been a kick-@ss TV, if you don't mind having a brick the size of a tool shed in the living room (and keeping out bright daylight).
