so you guys are saying i should not even consider a 1080p set (looking at the latest Sony SXRD A2000 model now...) because only Blue Ray offers that resolution natively? i recall last year's 1080p sets can't even accept 1080p input for some reason or another...

720p is really reasonable now but i prefer the new kind of bulb that samsung is coming out with (LED) which is supposed to last a lot longer and with a much shorter warm-up time...but that only comes in 1080p, and PS3 is supposed to support 1080p natively, right?

any suggestions? i'm looking for 60" ~ 70" TV cuz my living/family room is...kinda big...
Mingster, it really depends on how important viewing PS3 games in 1080p is to you. If I recall correctly, many of the early games are not opting for 1080p as it takes up ALOT of space, even for Bluray. You'll probably see 1080p more as the PS3 matures. Kind of like how it took a while for PS2 games to actually take advantage of the hardware and push some serious graphics.

Since 1080p is the new kid on the block, the 1080i/720p sets will be much more affordable and I'm sure you can deal better on them. In terms of the bulb on the DLPs, sure LED is better and lasts 10+yrs, however the current bulbs are easy to replace and aren't that expensive. You definitely won't spend the savings over a 1080p set in bulbs.

If the new 1080p sets start getting different DLP pinwheels, CableCardII, etc, then it may be worth spending the extra duckets.

If you plan on keeping the set for five years or so, I'd spring for 1080p if I were you. I really think that these sets are going the route of PCs, with newer versions being released every year at half the price of what you bought.

I bought my Samsung 50" DLP in May 2003, and after a huge discount (list was $3800) I paid $2850. I think mine was a second generation set. Three years later that set is in at least its seventh generation and costs less than $2k at Best Buy.

I'm not buying a new one right now, but I certainly won't be looking at a new set as being a 'keeper' in the future.
