Do you mind if I ask where you work. I've done some research into pattern recognition and radar.

Thanx for your input. What kind of stuff does your company do that they have so many different platforms running? Have you looked into the XML support Oracle already has. You can actually query data out and have it format the data in an XML document and vice versa you can import XML documents directly into the db. What part about the App server did you like if you weren't using their portal stuff. Are you using any other Oracle technologies along with the app server, or mostly as a web server and management tool for the db? Sorry if I'm getting too in depth, but we have been looking into this stuff for about a year now and haven't gotten any real educated opinions from anyone other then DBAs who seem to want the work of installing the servers and Oracle techs who are obvious biased as well. Thanx for you input.

CS majors? waiting to learn what they give you in school? When I interview those types of programmers, I usually never see them again. The majority of people in my office are self-taught, and this is the best group of engineers I've worked with in my life.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but i rather do this than start another thread.
I am doing an extra subject at university called 'Engineering mathematics' and a part of this subject i learn a little bit about this program called MATLAB.
Just wondering if there are anyone here that could help me with it for a couple of particular questions... Just codes to draw a graph and find the area.
I have many a couple of MATLAB guides but it does not help.

C++, VB 6, VB.NET 1.1-2.0 (ASP.NET), C#, PL/SQL, SQL Server (and Reporting Services), Oracle 9i and up, Java. Right now everyone wants web apps and back-end DB's setup/normalized, so that is how I spend most of my time. I work for a large defense contracting company and I do side jobs for other development companies and smaller businesses.

I think 1/2 this board are programmers. I like VB .net but I mostly stick with doing stuff to excel in vba with API etc... It keeps the users from freaking out about learning a new applications to manipulate their data. Even though I'm building the same application in Excel they think oh it's just excel I can handle that.
