What brand are you using?
I know that a lot of people like ON, but I have always thought that their flavors really blew. For whey I prefer "All The Whey" (their cupcake batter and cinnamon roll taste great mixed with water) or Dymatize (they have a few good flavors like cafe mocha and toffee, etc), and for a blend I like Gaspari Myofusion (Vanilla, straw, and chocolate all taste good when mixed in water).

sounds like a lot of votes for optimum nutrition and muscle milk.
+1 on Optimum Nutrion's 100% Gold Whey
I have personally gone through countless 5lb containers of this stuff and have tried many flavors. Your typical chocolates/cookies n creme are great when mixed with milk. Even if you use skim milk, it makes a world of difference when compared to mixing with water.
I got tired of the plain shakes so I have switched it up to a "fruit smoothie" sort of thing:
-Mix 1-2 scoops of "Vanilla Ice Cream" flavored ON's Whey Protein with about 16oz of milk. Shake well to dissolve properly.
-Add a handful of ice cubes to your blender
-Dump in one container of your favorite fruit flavored yogurt (I use the Fat Free)
-Add in the protein mixture you already mixed
-Blend to crush ice and mix all ingredients
It's very tastey and you get both fast/slow digesting proteins for a great post workout shake.
