Default PS2 & Burnt DVD's/Games

Hey guys,

Don't know if anyone would know the answer to this, but I was wondering if anyone knows if the Playstation 2 can play burnt games. My friend was thinking of buying a dvd burner and one of the deciding factors is if his PS2 would be able to play burnt PS2 games since they are dvd based. Because the cost of blank dvd's are so high, it doesn't make much sense to get one now because it will probably cost just as much to burn dvd's as to go out to buy them from the store. Just wondering. Thanks!

http://www.modchip.com/ps2/

the expense of blank dvd's at the moment are too high to justify copying games - but they are out there.

Now, I am assuming that PS2 games need to be burned onto blank dvd's and cannot be burned onto blank cd's, correct??

and that you definitely still need a mod chip to be able to do this, right?

A buddy of mine with a PS One had to get the mod chip before it would play burned games. I assumethat for the PS2, you'd have to do the same thing before it would play burned games.

Most games that are out there right now are just CDs, not DVDs. So there are lots of "backups" that are available for download all over the Internet. It requires some tricky modifications to your PS2, a Game Shark, and some knowledge on how to properly burn these games. But it CAN be done ... I've seen people with whole cases full of copied PS2 games.

Remember that PS2 can also play PS1 games. With the modchip, you can play burnt CDs. But the real good games are all on DVD.
